Folklore and superstition make a returnto the big screen this weekend with PournamiNagam. Remember old tales about how nagams(snakes) mate for life, their photographicmemory and vengeance which does not diedown even for decades; well, Pournami Nagamrelives this belief that was once rootedin the Indian psyche.
The story of Pournami Nagam is similar tomany films revolving around the belief thathad come out in the 70s and 80s. A pairof nagams has mated for life. Their missionis to perform the Naga dance in front ofthe Gods. But, all that is foiled by a gangof smugglers who kill the male Naga in searchfor the mythical ‘Naga manickyam'(diamond). The rest of the story is abouthow the female Naga wreaks vengeance onthe smugglers for killing her mate. This,she does by entering the body of a woman.
Mumaith Khan plays the female lead in afilm for the first time in Tamil with PournamiNagam. What more, she has been entrustedwith a double role. Known
 only for item songs till now,it will be interesting to watch her in a differentrole, though one guesses that a generous dose of glamourwill be present here too.
Pournami Nagam is directed by Kannan and is the remakeof the yesteryear Telugu hit Punnami Nagam. The filmalso features Karunas and Adithya Menon in importantroles.
